San Jose Half Course Experiences

Get ready to party and be motivated from start to finish with bands, DJs and of course the famous Mariachi Mile. But, that’s not all, Half Marathon participants also have two bonus experiences in 2026!

Mariachi Mile (Half Marathon & 8K)

One of the most iconic traditions of race weekend is the Mariachi Mile presented by Telemundo Bay Area, a high-energy stretch of the course that celebrates San José’s deep Mexican heritage and Chicano culture through live mariachi music and crowd support. Located in the final miles of both the San Jose Half Marathon and San Jose 8K, the Mariachi Mile delivers a powerful atmosphere right when runners need it most, helping carry participants toward the finish line with music, energy, and community spirit.

From the sound of trumpets and violins echoing through downtown streets to spectators dancing and cheering runners home, the Mariachi Mile has become one of the defining moments of the San Jose Half Marathon experience.

San Pedro Square Fun Route (Half Marathon)

Not chasing a PR? Around Mile 8.5, follow the Fun Route signage and duck off  W Santa Clara and onto San Pedro Street for this optional route!

  • Runners who choose this option will enter into Dr. Funk’s Tiki Bar with the first 200 through receiving a complimentary Tropical Second Wind Jello Shot!
  • Dr. Funk’s will only be open for runners and is entrance only.
  • O’Flaherty’s Irish Pub will be open to runners as well as the general public with runners enjoying a special $4.08 beer. Additional beverages available for purchase and serves as the exit for runners before getting back on course on W San Carlos.
  • 21+ only — Wristbands required; pick yours up at packet pickup on Friday or Saturday at Santana Row. Must be present with ID to receive wristband.
  • Last call at 9:30AM; bar closes at 10:00am with runners needing to proceed back on course.
  • A short detour (+0.2mi), a cold one, and back to the race.

* Adds 0.2mi to your overall race. Optional detour.

Speed City 1/4 Mile Zone (Half Marathon)

At Mile 9.5, the historic Alameda becomes your personal race track. Hit the timing mats, run a flat-out quarter mile, then settle back into your pace for the final stretch into Santana Row and the world-famous Mariachi Mile.

San José has one of the flattest, fastest courses in the country — Speed City is your chance to find out exactly how fast.

  • Look for the timing mats on The Alameda around Mile 9.5
  • Top finishers featured post-race on @sanjosehalf
  • Prizes shipped to top finishers after the race

*Does not add mileage to your race. Not a detour from course.

THANK YOU SAN JOSE FOR AN INCREDIBLE 2026 EDITION OF THE SAN JOSE HALF!
