Speed City Mile

John Carlos. Tommie Smith. Lee Evans. Bud Winters. San Jose was fast in the 1960s. It was revolutionary. And if you pull back the sporting lens, the same applies to Silicon Valley.
Our Speed City Mile pays homage to this legacy and we look forward to building upon it!
Course Map
In 2026 we are offering two (2) 1-Mile races beginning & finishing on Santana Row:
Speed City Open Mile
Available to the first 120 who register. Up to three heats will be run on a rolling basis organized slowest to fastest paces
- 9:00AM – over 11min Mile
- 9:20AM – 6:30-11min Mile
- 9:35AM – under 6:30min Mile
Speed City Prep Mile (Invite Only)
- 9:45AM – Prep Girls
- 9:53AM – Prep Boys
Available to 20 Boys & 20 Girls by descending order list of entries. Questions? Please email [email protected]. Anyone who does not qualify for the Speed City Prep Mile may run the Open Mile.
NEW: $500 winner-take-all prize for the top Boy and Top Girl in the Prep Mile. This event and prize purse is only available to incoming prep Freshmen through graduating Seniors at the prep level (no collegiate aged athletes or older). Competitors may not wear their school’s uniform and or represent their school in any manner. Must be unattached.
Speed City Mile Collection
All participants will receive a unique pin to commemorate the Speed City Mile.

Absolutely!
This is my only event. How do I get my pin?
All finishers will get a unique Speed City Mile pin upon finishing! Event shirts are only available for Half Marathon & 8K participants.
